With Henley positively brimming with exciting things to see and do over the summer we thought it would be in good community spirit to turn the spotlight onto lesser known events in our latest blog. After all, we love Henley and all it has to offer residents and visitors. From art and craft to street food and from music to children’s activities, Henley really has it all this summer. Here is our handpicked list of events not to be missed over the next few months:

Henley Arts Trail: Saturday 29th April – 1st May

In its 12th year, this vibrant and colourful art extravaganza returns to Henley due to unprecedented demand by talented local creatives and art-loving residents. With 32 venues varying in size, dotted around Henley and surrounding areas, visitors can look forward to finding a selection of unique textile pieces and paintings fit for any home décor, beautifully handmade jewellery and ceramics, and expertly crafted woodwork. May Fair: 1st May

After 30 years, the Henley May Fair is returning to the town square! Expect to see traditional Maypole and Morris dancing and musical entertainment like Sam Brown’s Ukulele Band. Local children’s performance art collective Divas and Dudes will be dancing up a storm while punters can try their luck with a game of tug of war and coconut shy while marvelling at stilt walkers. Street Food Festival: 20th May

Between 10am and 11pm, delicious street food from all around the globe takes centre stage on Hart Street. Blue Collar Street Food have already found success putting on a feast in Reading town centre on Wednesday lunchtimes, with their unique traders serving foodie favourites like hog roast, Jamaican jerk chicken, vegan treats, Mexican burritos, scallop burgers, crispy squid, German sausages, Greek souvlaki and more. You’ll find us at the front of the queue! The road will be closed for the event as its set to be hugely popular with locals. Henley Women’s Regatta: 16th – 18th June

Cheer on your favourite crew at this prestigious sporting event in June. The HWR has rapidly gained strength and popularity from humble beginnings in 1988 to now a three-day event attracting over 1500 rowers, their crews and cheering spectators from all around the world – plus live streaming of the event. From junior to university, rowing club to elite level rowing – expect to see high octane, blisteringly competitive side by side races for the most coveted of trophies. We can’t wait, ladies! Henley Symphony Orchestra: 25th June

At 7pm on the delightful grounds of Shiplake College, enjoy a delicious picnic with friends and listen to the powerful sounds of the HSO with Richard Hosford on clarinet. This wonderful evening event is a mixture of the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside and some of Britan’s most outstanding musicians. Giffords Circus at Stonor Park: 13th – 17th July

Dubbed “The nation’s most glamorous troupe” by the The Sunday Telegraph, the critically acclaimed baroque inspired Giffords Circus is set to amaze all at Stonor Park this July. The explosive bunch are touring their new show ‘Any port in a Storm’ and they include a Cuban troupe, a Ukrainian flyer and a Hungarian Csikos rider all running amok alongside the famous Giffords Circus band. Expect to be in awe of this international gymnastic show with dancing horses and of course the king of mis-rule, Tweedy the clown. For those hungry for more, Circus Sauce, their unique 60-seat restaurant will be cooking up a grand candle-lit feast for its guests. The Thames Traditional Boat Festival: 14th – 16th July

The biggest boating event in Europe takes place in Fawley Meadows this July. Colloquially known as The Trad, this family-friendly event first took place 37 years ago, as a rally for like-minded classic boat enthusiasts who wanted to share their passion for older, traditionally built craft which were fast disappearing from the River Thames. Fast forward to 2017 and the Trad is a grand spectacle gaining interest from all around the world.  Expect to see beautifully crafted boats from a bygone era, and a fun-filled day for children and adults alike. Regatta for the disabled at Phyllis Court: 1st September

Regatta for the Disabled is a fun and exciting event for children and adults with a disability to enjoy a vast variety of land and river based activities which they would normally consider unavailable to them. There are wonderful attractions which can be enjoyed by both disabled and able-bodied children and grown-ups; make a splash in the all new Bell Boat race and test your strength on the climbing wall (wheelchairs welcome!).
